One of our main goals is to create an open access database of the diplomatic actors, such as official and unofficial envoys, ambassadors, mediators, and go-betweens, serving the rulers of the small states at the borderlands of the Ottoman Empire. Entries in the database will include the chronology of the given person’s diplomatic activities and their basic biographical data. Sources mentioning the individual and further readings will also be included. Our entries will make the diplomatic actor visible in the many-folded context of their mission, presenting their activities, relationships and both the sender and receiving authority. With this database we hope to support the actor-based approach of research in the area.
The database will be made public in 2027, at the end of the project.
